Some consider university degree as the most effective method of landing a good job. Whereas, others tend to prioritise obtaining experience and learning soft skills. In my opinion, to keep up with the fast-paced world, the latter notion has a higher success rate as practical knowledge is superior to theoretical knowledge.
On the one hand completing tertiary level allows a student to accumulate varied knowledge. The networking is broaden and communication skill is enhanced. For example, university student is more likely to attend seminars or social gathering due to social cohesion. Even though this networking might act as a contributing factor for being hired, criteria like good grades and job experiences might pose a hindrance in the way of securing a job.
On the other hand gaining experience and soft skills such as learning data entries or primary mechanics can enable a person to have more realistic knowledge in a specific field. This opinion is also supported by the proverb “Jack of all trades, master of none.” For instance, I study consumer behaviour, trade, economics et cetera as a Finance major. However, if a person learns ‘quickbook’ application or other skills related to my field, they will be better equipped with practical idea, hence,boost the chances of employment.
In conclusion, to stay in accord with the rapidly changing demands of recruiters, the significance of experience and soft skills will claim a spot on top of university education.
