Nowadays some people argue that social libraries crucial in the age of networks and e-books. I partly agree with this statement, that libraries should be replaced by online and internet service.
On the one hand, it depends on individual’s opinion and occasion. For instance, for people who live far from central libraries, digital library would be beneficial option. The main benefit is that, customers can retrieve books, journals, audio books and magazines anytime and from anywhere with an good internet connection. Secondly is cost, in many libraries the original books cost more than digital books. Therefore, a huge number of customers prefer digital books. Furthermore, with fast search function, digital platforms provide an unmatched level of speed that modern users increasingly demand.
On the other hand, i firmly believe that public libraries have their own special occasions and atmosphere. While digital platforms offer access to convenience, physical libraries good at creating physhological environment an atmosphere that digital libraries cannot replace. Firstly, public libraries provide an unique learning atmosphere. Smell of pages, surroundings and quietness make libraries more atmospheric. The main reason is that you can concentrate on your reading by looking to others. In my opinion, exactly this occasion makes readers more focussed.
In conclusion, while digital libraries provide increadible convenience and rapid acces to information, they cannot replace physical libraries’ equal access, and atmosphere that traditional libraries provide. Therefore, public libraries should be modernized alongside digital libraries rather than replaced them
