Due to the development of the Internet and technology, there are several study platforms and class forms. There is an assertion that both schools and students are given more advantages when experiencing online classes rather than taking a traditional class. While there are merits to both sides of the argument regarding the advantages of these two forms of teaching and studying, I tend to partially disagree with this opinion.
Firstly, those who advocate this view might argue that online courses provide learners with flexibility and convenience. The traditional form indeed requires people to go to an offline location, which is an obstacle in some cases such as bad weather days or being late when facing traffic congestion in rush hours. The online class just needs a technological device with the Internet, students could ensure they will study well. Moreover, the modern form guarantees that those who are working could be proactive in managing their time and organizing schedules. This meets their fundamental needs as a busy person. Helping them not interrupt their job and enabling them to earn a degree while maintaining their occupation are the significant advantages of studying through the screen.
On the other hand, there are some reasons that explain why many people disagree with this view. One of the major drawbacks of studying online is a lack of interaction between instructors and learners. When having questions about a concept or theory, it is difficult for a student to be treated and solve their problem quickly and directly. At the same time, the teachers also have to rely on the proactivity of their students if they have difficulties. This leads to multiple misunderstandings and misconceptions which causes damage to their lesson’s basis of knowledge. In comparison, in traditional form, teachers could according to students’ facial expressions predict if the students get to the point or not, so that they could tailor their explanations to individual learning styles and provide real-time support. Furthermore, the course which is enrolled on the Internet is only beneficial to people who can discipline themselves, not the procrastinators. As laziness or person has procrastination, they may not impose strict on courses unless a mentor pushes them. Without tracking the study process which means that the outcome result can not be ensured correctly.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on whether Internet-based learning is a better option than the old classes form, I believe that striking a balance between all aspects is the optimal approach. While taking online courses provides convenience and flexibility for learners, especially workers, the students must get used to independent learning and proactively questioning when having difficulties. Traditional forms should be on top of the list providing that learners have conditions, because of its outcome results and quality.
