Band 5+: Do you agree or disagree with the statement that students should use edtech tools more extensively in higher education?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

For years, individuals have sought many methods to study. They use practice tools which facilitate their learning process until they graduate from high school. Nowadays, in higher education there are different ways for students to study as their process of perceiving information may be vary. Thanks to the advancements in technology, using edtech tools which are one of the methods of learning has significantly increased. While some of the individuals think usage of edtech tools should be increased extensively in higher educations, others think its opposite. Hence, it has become a controversial topic among them. Supporters of edtech tools claim that there are numerous benefit such as interactive collaboration and unlimited accessibility but critics say that there is a digital divide.

One of the foremost arguments put forward by advocates is that edtech tools provide students in higher education with effective interaction and collaboration. There are several tools that include games, videos, and slides to teach students the topic they do not understand. Therefore, extensive usage of edtech tools is one of the effective ways for learning since students may have fun while perceiving the information. What is more, these edtech tools enhance the communication between students and teachers. In some platforms such as Google classroom, students may ask questions and teachers answer them effortlessly .

Another viewpoint is that students take advantage of edtech tools because of their unlimited accessibility. In higher education, there are students who have no time to go to school physically. Using edtech tools help them to keep up with their classmates. They access lectures and resources from anywhere with internet connection. This flexibility enables learners to pursue their education while balancing other responsibilities such as work or family obligations.

On the other hand, there are critics who think extensive usage of edtech tools in higher education raises concern about digital divide. There are numerous students who lack of internet connection or appropriate devices. Hence, edtech tools may create barriers to learn among students since it is not equal. This has some merit on the surface. However, digital divide is gradually narrowing due to the various advancements. There are several organizations which are actively working to bridge this gap by providing free internet connection and increasing affordability of technological devices. Therefore, almost all students have opportunity to access edtech tools.

In conclusion, there is an ongoing debate about edtech tools. While advocates think that their benefits outweigh, claims think that not every student has access to edtech tools. By leveraging these tools effectively, institutions can create dynamic and inclusive learning environments that empower students to succeed in the digital age.
