In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate about whether there is doctors’ responsibility for addressing advice to their patients about enhancing their health or not. This essay will discuss this important topic and determine my own opinion.
To begin, I partly agree that doctors should educate their patients. On one hand, providing detailed information by the doctors might prevent their patients from several diseases as they are likely to trust doctors more rather than their family members or psychologists. For example, medical professionals can help an individual to quit a harmful habit such as smoking by providing a clear evidence on what potential consequences the patient can face with. One of these examples can be showing an individual a picture of the patient that suffers from a lung cancer and is likely to die. After this pictute will be seen by an individual, he can realize what detrimental effect smoking can lead to and as a result, his life might be prevented from death.
In this case, doctors are very paramount figures as their knowledge are essential for those who really need them
On the other hand, many doctors argue that they are not interested in teaching people as their responsibility is to cure them. Especially, when it is about a salary as medical professionals spend their time on educating people with not getting extra payed for this and therefore, some of them might be irritated and resulting in decreased job quality.
In conclusion, while some argue that doctors should take responsibility in educating people I believe that finding a compromise is the best option to address this raised question.
