Band 6+: Employers should give holidays of at least one month to employees to encourage them to perform better at workplace. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a contentious debate concerning whether employees should be granted holidays of at least one month to improve their performance at work. While I acknowledge that extended holidays are well-suited with businesses to a certain extent, I hold the belief that these vacations play a crucial role in satisfying employees and increasing workforce’s retention.

On the one hand, four-week holidays can significantly hinder the professional development of employees. The primary concern is the disruption of work routine. Indeed, if the duration of holidays are extended over one month, employees are likely to lose the intimate relationships with their clients because of long absence, resulting in lower earnings and fewer opportunities for advancement and recognition at work. Another consideration is the adverse effects on business operations. As a multitude of employees take extended holidays, lack of personnel can frequently arise and thus diminish monthly productivity and impair the working environment. Consequently, companies might struggle to attain long-term development, while also cost numerous financial resources to pay these vacations.

On the other hand, advocates of long vacations argue that holidays of at least four weeks can introduce certain benefits to employees. Primarily, such holidays can relieve stress and pressure that regularly harm overall well-being among the staff. Specifically, working relentlessly in a prolonged period can not only engender a sense of distress but also impair workers’ concentration due to the accumulation of fatigue at the workplace. Therefore, participating in long vacation can enable employees to experience more recreational activities and allocate time to their family members instead of being immersed in overwhelming workload, potentially mitigating the risk of mental breakdown. This can lead to a situation where the productivity is enhanced due to the increased mental prosperity, while also raising the rate of retention among employees as they can gain intangible profits from one-month vacations, including time and experience. A case in point is Apple, a large technological company, reported that their products supplement and revenues have soared 20% through providing one-month holidays for employees.

In conclusion, despite some notable drawbacks of long-lasting holidays, I maintain that vacations that last for at least four are essential due to the mental ease of employees.
