Some people believe that protecting the environment should be a politician’s responsibility rather than individuals because they contribute too little. While I accept that politicians play a key role in environmental protection, I opine that individuals also contribute significantly to protect the environment.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that politicians should take primary responsibility for environmental protection. The reason is that they have legal power to enforce environmental laws. Governments can make laws and regulations, so they can control industrial activities, such as impose taxes on carbon emissions, and penalize companies that cause pollution. This is the reason that people lack the power to influence industries. In addition, many global environmental problems require action at the national and international levels. This is due to issues such as climate change and deforestation cannot be effectively addressed by individuals. Therefore, the government is essential in tackling environmental challenges.
On the other hand, politicians are not only responsible because individuals also make a significant contribution to environmental protection. This is because the daily actions of individuals have a significant impact on the environment. For example, everyday actions such as reducing plastic consumption, recycling and conserving energy, can create a difference. Besides, individuals can influence businesses and governments because public awareness and consumer choices influence government and business. For instance, if many people demand green products, companies can change their production methods. Therefore, their efforts play a crucial role in supporting government measures.
In conclusion, while many people think that the government can address environmental problems by legal power, I still believe that when each individual combines their small actions, it creates a significant impact on the environment.
