There is an ongoing debate whether individuals should work for a large corporation or a small one. Both viewpoints can bring several benefits, but I prefer larger companies.
The claim in favor of working for smaller firms is not entirely baseless. Firstly, employees may experience much more freedom within their roles as smaller companies tend not to be too formal. They can also collaborate more closely with their superior, which in other words, workers can receive more attention and their opinions and voices may get much more notice. Secondly, in terms of career progression, a small company can provide a less competitive environment for employees. Due to the low number of workers, individuals may find it much easier to get promotions, which can contribute to higher earning potential. Nevertheless, promotions do not guarantee a high or sustainable income as smaller companies may earn much less compared to larger ones.
However, I would still advocate for working in a larger firm. In terms of financial stability, large companies can provide regular income and even bonuses, allowing individuals to cover living expenses even if they deal with financial crises such as during the Covid-19 pandemic. This may not be the case for smaller corporations as they may experience greater financial vulnerability and a higher risk of bankruptcy. In addition, working in a larger company can provide a wider range of cultures and individuals, which is more probable for employees to encounter colleagues sharing the same passions and career goals. They, as a result, can establish meaningful connections in order to share advice and provide support not only in the workplace when needed but also in daily life.
In conclusion, although some people may prefer seeking jobs in small companies, I would contend that employees may not receive sustainable income or even face greater financial instability. Larger companies, on the other hand, not only provide a stable amount of salary, but also provide an environment where individuals can create supportive friendships.
