Band 5+: Euthanasia, or mercy killing, has been in the news more and more recently. Many people are strongly against such a practice, but there is a growing demand to have it legalized. How far do you agree with euthanasia being legal?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, one of the most important issues attracting numerous attention from people around the world is the legalization of euthanasia. While some people are against the legalization of euthanasia, I still believe that allowing people to decide their euthanasia has some advantages.

On the one hand, some people claim that the legalization of euthanasia should be banned. Some individuals who want to end their life have emotional distress and physical fatigue that leads to imbalanced thought and negative decisions. As a result, allowing them to make their own decision also results in an adverse trend in euthanasia. For example, in Japan, there is a famous mountain where some teenagers and adults come to this in order to suicide. Therefore, citizens in Japan make a negative trend that affects children’s awareness and bad reputation in the society.

On the other hand, I still maintain that allowing people to legal euthanasia has some advantages. Firstly, some individuals have some disease such as cancer, blood cancer, brain cancer or having some accidents making them not have ability to work and contribute to society. As a result, they will become a major financial burden on their families if they have a lot of surgeries and treatment without recovering. Therefore, when they decide to end their life, the burden will be reduced not only on families but also on societies. Moreover, if some individuals do not have the ability to suffer from pain and disease, they will become emotionally distressed and physically fatigued when maintaining their lives. When allowing them to decide euthasiana, the depression, pressure and the risk may be solved. Thus, some individuals may feel comfortable, liberated and free.

In conclusion, although some people are against the legalization of euthanasia because this leads to adverse awareness and lower reputation, I think that their decisions should be respected when they may not have hope to recover from diseases and problems.
