As opportunities become a global affair, immigration rules across the world undergo large reforms, which allows people to move from one place to another. Through this essay, we will be discussing some advantages and disadvantages of migration for the society and for the people in it.
Commencing on a positive note, immigrants all over have always helped boost the economy of another country. They bring with them their skills and culture, which enriches the new-found-land with diversity and variety. Natives learn new things about other communities, while the foreigners try to adapt to a different environment, which improves both of their survival skills. This helps in building strong international relationships. Without this mix up, experiencing non-local cuisines and traditions would not have been possible for many local beings. An example would be Canadians enjoying Pita bread and hummus, which technically is a part of Mediterranean cuisine.
On the contrary, the involvement of non-native individual in a foreign land means that the local customs and languages are now in trouble. There are high chances of other verbal communication over-powering the existing ones. To promote easy blending, citizens of a country tend to train themselves with the immigrant’s language, that after many years, their own fades away. Due to this, the newcomer too never fully understands the local life. To back this up, we can observe how English and French overthrew the First Nations voice, Inuktitut, in Canada.
To summarize, immigration always has both positive and negative effects on individuals as well as their environment. In my belief, it is better to see this as a progressive decision rather than ponder over its ill-effects.
