Studying at a university abroad has become increasingly popular among students in recent years among students, and so more universities and colleges are offering student exchange programs for those who want to study in a foreign country. Therefore, many people argue that these programs are always useful for all young people. Although this has some certain drawbacks, I firmly believe there are more significant upsides.
Admittedly, there are some downsides that should be taken into account. One of the major disadvantages is the security problem. Those students have to live away from their parents, friends, and supervisors. They may have to deal with their own problems independently. In addition, they can feel lonely. This is because they are used to living with their parents and siblings. Another disadvantage is financial difficulties. It is true that most students’ exchange program expenses are covered by the university or government. However, there are some programs that do not include all expenses. In this circumstance, tickets and accommodation costs can be considerable. As a result, they might have to find extra jobs to cover these expenses.
Exchange programs provide some valuable opportunities for personal and academic development. One of the main advantages is that students can acquire crucial skills and information that are related to their study from those professors at foreign university. These teachers can be more experienced and knowledgeable than their local teachers. In addition to this, if students go to the university which is located in a developed country, this university will offer some valuable experiences that do not exist their home country. There may be specialized laboratories and industrial facilities in order to create practical environment. Another significant benefit is that participants who take part in student exchange programs become more independent. They acquire not only academic skills, but also essential life skills such as problem-solving and financial literacy. Those participants could learn how to control their money as well as make their own decisions without their parents’ help.
In conclusion, although student exchange programs may pose some problems, such as safety and budget ones, I think there are more advantages. These programs can improve their life skills and problem-solving.
