In this day and age, risky sports have become popular among individuals and it is often argued that governments should take into consideration to stop them. I totally disagree with this statement that these sports are too dangerous and I therefore believe that they should not be prohibited.
First of all, in many peoples’ opinion so-called extreme sports are too dangerous but I am against this idea. There is no sport that does not involve risky elements, and there should always be regulations and safety procedures to reduce the likelihood of accidents. People who attends in extreme sports are usually required to have enough experience so that the dangers are minimized. For example, anyone who wants to try bungee jumping have to sign up for lessons with a registered club, and newcomers must not be allowed to jump solely; they must be accompanied by an experienced professional. Last but not least, the security equipment and technologies used in sports from extreme car racing to mountain climbing is constantly improving safety.
While I support rules and safety measures, I believe that it is nearly impossible to ban extreme sports. Firstly, we all decide what we do in our leisure time; as long as we understand the risks, I do not think that governments should stop us from having fun from ourselves. However, there is an even stronger argument against a ban that it would be the difficulty of enforcing it. Many of the most extreme sports such as skydiving and big wave surfing, are practiced far away from government. I cannot imagine that police officers are trying to stop people from parachuting off a plane or surfing on an isolated beach.
To conclude, as long as people understand the risks and take the appropriate precautions, I believe that people can be free to enjoy extreme sports.
