Nowadays, many parents do not believe that pununishing children by smacking is the best way to discipline them, while others argue that this leads to poorly behaved children. I completely disagree whith this view because there are more effective ways to discipline children and physical punishment can have harmful consequences
Firstly, children do not need to be smacked to learn discipline. This can be explained by the fact that, parents can set clear rules and consequences such as avoiding video games, extra house chores and limited budget for their bad behaviour. As a result, children understand what behaviour is acceptable or unacceptable, which leads to they gradually develop self-control to away from their misbehaviour. For example, parents can remove a child’s phone or limit screen time when they break an important rule. In addition, when children are frequently hit for misbehaving, they may learn that using violence is an acceptable way to solve problems. As a result, they may become more aggressive towards other children.
Secondly, misbehaviour is caused more by poor parenting and lack of boundaries than by the absence of smacking. This is due to the fact that, children imitate their parents beaviour. Since parents should create consistent rules and high -quality communication as good role models for their children, they can learn respect and responsibility. In this way, they can behave well without physical punishment. To illustrate, children whose parents consistently enforces rules can learn discipline even if they are never pysically punished.
In conclusion, I disagree with the view that the decline in smacking is causing children to become more badly behaved, because effective non-physical discipline and consistent parenting can develop children’s self-control and responsibility
