Shopping, in this day and age, has become an indispensable part of our life, as all of us need to purchase bare necessities. However, along with the influence of consumer culture, the term “shopaholic” has entered the dictionary presenting the passion and inclination people have towards shopping and investing in inessential stuff. In my opinion, this habit poses more negative aspects to humans than the positive ones.
To begin with, shopping too many times can bound to take away humans’ time for socializing and outdoor activities. The customers may spend all of their spare time in the shopping malls, and as the result, miss out on the chance to enjoy other leisure pastimes. Moreover, people who are likely to shop until they drop would well play down on the importance of the time spent in developing bonds and real interaction with family members, relatives and friends. Youngsters, especially students can neglect their studies due to the excessive amount of time used to wander around, leading to bad results at school. Therefore, it is irrefutable that shopping sometimes is a waste of precious time.
Moving on to the next point, shopping for unnecessary stuff is definitely a waste of money. People nowadays are likely to shop to keep up with the Joneses, and they often head for big brand names, whose products are extravagant. They look upon those products as musthave items, so they will go to any lengths to get them. In all posibility, by constantly purchasing unwanted things, regular shoppers tend to get into debt, downgrade their financial status which may trigger some serious problems later.
Finally, pleasure shopping builds up a bad habit for the purchaser. The excessive shopping habit would affect our evaluating to purchase what we really need. They keep bringing homes inessential things, which means that they have lost their control of the expenditure on stuff. This may somehow worsen the relationship in the family, not least falling out with parents.
In conclusion, shopping as an entertainment is not a good trend in our personal and social life. We should invest our time and money on more productive activities to make the world even better.
