One key rationale is that increasing entry fees for foreigners can generate significant economic benefits. Tourist attractions often require substantial investments in facilities and services to appeal to international tourists. Consequently, the higher fees paid by overseas visitors can help offset the costs of maintenance and preservation that authorities need to fund. Additionally, extra financial contributions from international visitors can support further promotion and development of these cultural and historical sites.
On the other hand, I believe that entrance fees should be equitable for both foreign and local visitors. The primary reason is that historical and cultural attractions are meant to be shared and appreciated by everyone, regardless of nationality. Imposing higher costs on foreign tourists can create a negative impression and may be perceived as discriminatory. For example, in Vietnam, charging foreigners higher prices is criticized and penalized by authorities, as it goes against the principle of fairness. Ensuring equal treatment fosters a spirit of unity and openness, which is essential for promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Moreover, higher travel costs can deter budget-conscious tourists, potentially reducing overall revenue and international exposure.
In conclusion, while charging foreign tourists higher fees might appear economically beneficial, I firmly believe that the potential drawbacks, such as damaging the country’s image and discouraging tourism, outweigh these advantages. Therefore, entrance fees for cultural and historical attractions should remain consistent for all visitors.
