It is sometimes argued that tourists from overseas should be charged more than local residents to visit historical and cultural sites. I completely disagree with this idea.
The argument in favor of high prices would be that important sites and monuments in each country often depend on state subsidies, which means that resident populations already pay money for these sites through the tax system. However, foreign tourists contribute to the economy of the host country with the money they spend on a wide range of goods and services including food, souvenirs, accommodations, and travel. The government and inhabitants of every country should be happy to subsidies foreign tourists and encourage people from the rest of the world to visit them.
On the other hand, if travelers pay more than the local population in a particular country, they may decide not to go to that country during the holidays. To take the United Kingdom as an example, the tourism industry and many related jobs depend on visitors coming to see places like cathedrals and palaces. These sites charge the same prices regardless of the nationality of the visitors and thus people are encouraged to visit the UK. If tourists pay more for these sites, they may stop coming, and thus there would be a risk due to insufficient funding for the maintenance of these important buildings.
In conclusion, every effort and facilities should be made to attract tourists from overseas. The satisfaction of the current visitors will encourage people in the future to visit that country.
