Nowadays, many countries still rely on fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas to supply energy, but some nations are slowly shifting to renewables, ranging from solar to wind energy. While this trend can come with some trade-offs, I believe that using alternative energy is a positive development rather than a negative.
One glaring reason why many countries cannot depend on renewable energy is the cost factor. Using solar panels and wind turbines requires a huge investment and special techniques. Even after meeting these requirements, energy output can be inconsistent, as solar power depends on sunlight and wind energy relies on weather conditions. Furthermore, developing countries may also struggle to maintain these systems because they require careful work with them, and also require specialists who know how to use them. A good case in point is Africa, where the majority of the local population lacks access to basic electricity, because of which local governments tend to use immediate supply, often fossil fuel. Considering all of these, it is more reasonable for such countries to rely on conventional resources due to the fact that renewable energy is a luxury rather than a priority.
However, the long-term benefits of alternative energy far outweigh these challenges. First of all, renewable energy is more environmentally friendly. Unlike coal, oil, and natural gas, solar and wind power do not release harmful gases into the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide. These factors often lead to serious health problems. By reducing their dependence, countries can significantly lower their level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Furthermore, using renewable energy is more cost-efficient because solar and wind power are abundantly available. For instance, in European countries, the cost of energy is noticeably lower than in the countries that I mentioned before.
To sum up, while the transition to renewable energy can be challenging, particularly in terms of cost, it is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. In addition, such initiatives can foster sustainability and ensure more eco-friendly environment for future generations.
