Nowadays genetic engineering – a cutting-age technology, which provides plenty of new development opportunities, but at the same time poses new heavy and even philosophical questions to present society. On the one hand genetic engineering can be used for agriculture or even more, as a treatment for hereditary or lethal illnesses. On the other hand it can oppositely cause unexpected diseases or exacerbate existing ones, and is it morally correct to change the DNA of any creature?
Proponents say that genetic engineering technology potentially can become a real breakthrough in medicine in a while. A lot of people suffer from heritable diseases which cant be treated by traditional methods, diabetes for instance. By modifying proteins we have already developed the drug of the new generation “Humulin”, which helps the organism to produce insulin in necessary amounts.
Other people are scared of the consequences of such interventions in organisms. World knows cases when using genetic engineering in agriculture by farmers leaded to disruption of food chains, because vegetables have become unsuitable for insects. Hard to imagine what side effects might manifest after implementing this technology on humans
In conclusion, while genetic engineering offers obvious benefits, it also presents ethical and security challenges. It is crucial to proceed with caution, implementing regulations and ethical guidelines to develop its potential while considering its risks.
