The increasing percent of obesity and heart diseases among young people reports the lack of a good diet. What are the causes? First of all, most of young people can’t cook in order that they often eat in fast food where dishes are very tasty and cheap. They don’t know what the junk food is and why it is damaging for the health. Snack and sandwich advertisement doesn’t inform about nutritional values of these products because its main purpose is the increase of trades at the expense of a balanced diet. Consequently, the education system must face the current problem about the wrong nutrition. What can the school do?
First of all, the educational system should be updated with new priorities. Teaching the principles of good nutrition makes students more aware of the bad effects on health caused by a wrong diet. In fact, the awareness is developed not only by theoretical lessons, but also by practical activities. During school break frizzy drinks and snack like French fries, sweets and sandwich are forbitten. The canteen service offers only healthy dishes and teacher explain because some groceries are good for our body.
Obviously, it isn’t enough because students must reduce their sedentary life doing any kind of sports. Thus, the government must guarantee opportunities with sporting associations reducing the cost of courses in order that the families can afford the children’s attendance.
In addition, practising a sport allows to develop fundamental competences like respect among equals, collaboration and socialization. In fact, a lot of teenagers don’t have a social life because they spend all afternoon watching TV series and playing on-line.
To sum up, the improvement of teenage life is possible by government reforms on the educational and sporting system.
