Many individuals often feel that government investment should be focused towards improving public services instead of investing the money in sports. I quite agree that officials should give special attention in regards to public services, as it is surely a very important aspect for the citizens. However, I believe occasional investments in sport could also be quite beneficial.
A nation that is able to provide satisfying public services is sure to promote better lives for its people, as the residents will feel more secure and cared for. Examples could range from subsidized healthcare services to providing scholarship grants for those who are in need. In Australia, public schools are free of charge, meaning that the government contributes a huge role in the education of its young citizens.
As for investment in sports, the idea is not completely wrong either, as sports can serve to be a media of entertainment and leisure for most people. Besides that, the nation’s athletes also deserve financial importance from the government. As an example, countries would have to send their athletes to the Olympics every few years. The amount of money contributed to the sports facilities and training regiments provided for the athletes can significantly affect their performance in the games.
In conclusion, government investment should be more focused on the public services sector, but sports should not be completely ignored either.
