The goverments of various countries have started using AI as a decision making tool in logistical fields, such as public services, welfare distribution and traffic control. In my opinion, while this shift has some negative effects, such as the loss of workplaces, the benefits of practicality outweigh them.
The most serious concern that most people have about this recent development is that the increased usage of robots will lead to higher levels of unemployment and mass firings. Many people are employed as decision makers in those fields, but due to AI being faster and cheaper, they fear that they will be switched out for AI. While there might be some truth to this conclusion, I believe that the goverments will need people to overlook the AI and its decisions, so most of the workplaces will stay untouched.
On the other hand, AI can make the decision making process many times quicker, which is especially important in voulnorable fields, such as welfare distribution and public services. Thousands of accurate calculations can be completed in the span of a second with the help of AI. For example traffic systems controlled by AI could quickly adapt to unexpected variables, such as car crashes, and make the traffic go smoother. I believe that especially in the goverment, efficiancy and accuracy are of utmost importance, and AI is the only way to guarantee both.
In conclusion, integration of AI into the goverments systems is not without its flaws, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. While the loss of jobs might be a problem that will effect some, the positive impacts of heightened accuracy and speed in these voulnorable fields have greater effect. As long as the goverments keep AI under control and maintain workplaces, the shift remains a positive.
