Band 5+: Governments spend an enormous amount of money on renovations of old buildings in large cities. Some believe that this money can be better spent on building new houses and developing roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement?

In this modern era, every country’s governments try to develop their country. Governments spend a lot of money on renovations of old buildings in big cities, while some feel that this money can be better for developing roads and also for building new houses. I firmly agree with this statement. In this essay, I will give my overall opinion.

Old buildings are the history of time for every country. That’s the main reason behind governments thinking to refurbish the old buildings in the big urban area. Behind this statement there are the same various reasons; one of the causes is that those old buildings can be tourist attractions that will improve the country’s overall economy. Recently, BBC News published Italy made 25 billion growth by their tourist sites. It’s massive growth for a country. The reason behind massive growth is that they built their world-class tourist attraction.

On the other hand, some people said that governments should spend the money on developing roads and also building some new houses. I agree with this statement. By doing this, it will change people’s lifestyle in a massive way. Roads are an important way to move from one place to another, so developing countries road a massive change for their country; it also creates a good impression internationally. Tourists can also feel that they can easily move. Building new houses can be a better solution to decreasing the cost of houses. By doing this, the people of the countries will be beneficial. In a recent case study, Australia spent 13 billion AUD on their roads.

In conclusion, both statements are correct in some way, but I strongly agree that governments should spend their money on roads and new houses.
