English is very important to me because it is a language spoken all over the world. It is primarily used in communication, education, business, and technology. Furthermore, it is a dominant language in developed countries such as the USA, the UK, Canada, and Australia. Consequently, it opens doors to numerous opportunities, whether in my career, education, or personal growth. Speaking and understanding English enables me to communicate with people globally, providing access to information, books, online courses, and job opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable.
Learning English has been a journey filled with challenges and excitement. Before I began my studies, I felt nervous and lacked the confidence to engage in face-to-face conversations with foreigners or to both ask and answer questions posed by my teachers. I faced several obstacles, including reading, speaking, pronunciation, and vocabulary, and I often found it difficult to comprehend native speakers. Nevertheless, I refused to give up. I continued to practice, believing that if others could learn English, so could I. I received tremendous support from my parents, friends, and international volunteers at Brother Mouse and E4E. They encouraged me with words like, ‘Don’t be shy or worried; just believe in yourself; you can do it; keep going.’ Their advice helped boost my confidence.
For the past two years, I have been learning and practicing English, and I have witnessed significant improvement in my skills. Although I am not as fluent as others, I can still communicate effectively, and reflecting on the progress I’ve made from my previous level of English motivates me to keep pushing forward.
In the future, I hope to use English in my career, to learn about different cultures while traveling, and to assist other Hmong students. Proficiency in English will enhance my ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, enabling me to learn new things and create more opportunities for my future. I am determined to continue improving my English skills and to utilize them in various aspects of my life.
