It is undeniably true that human intervention has a negative impact on flora and fauna. Some people argue that due to excessive damage to the environment, all measures might be in vain. However, others believe that only by taking targeted and timely steps can humans attain remarkable environmental progress, or at least, safeguard the remaining resources. I personally align with the latter view, as nature can be revived through measures such as selective breeding and massive cultivation of plants.
On the one hand, the extinction of certain species of animals and plants is imminent. There are a number of factors such as natural disasters, unknown diseases, and other external influences which causes the extinction of certain animals. For example, it is historically evident that a massive extinction of species was caused by the Ice Age. It was out of human control. Another compelling example to back up the view is the disappearance of dodos. While a significant amount of effort and money was allocated to the protection of this species, no remarkable results were achieved.
However, I firmly argue that preventive measures aimed at preserving the natural world will prove effective. To commence with, the ban on human activities such as illegal poaching of exotic species, hunting for pleasure, and using animal skins in the production of cosmetic goods should be imposed to protect endangered animals. To illustrate, thanks to well-timed measures and financial backup by the Chinese government and natural parks, pandas – species which were once on the verge of extinction – still exist on Earth. Additionally, in many parts of the world, as a consequence of rapid urbanization, deforestation is on the rise, causing habitat loss and irreversible damage to the vegetation of the area. In such places, tree cutting should be reduced to allow vegetation to recover, promoting environmental sustainability.
In conclusion, it is widely argued that today’s environmental erosion and the extinction of animals are unavoidable. However, the intensity of these issues can be mitigated by implementing necessary steps such as the prohibition of hunting and reduction of deforestation.
