In today’s world, people’s way of living is negatively affecting our planet. To reduce the impact, they have to alter their way of living to a better and more sustainable one. I personally believe that if immediate actions are taken by individuals first, we might have an opportunity to save our planet.
Human consumption is one of our major problems. Every year, nearly 1 million animals are killed to meet human needs. In European countries, fast food companies like McDonald’s, Wendy’s and others responsible for killing millions of animals, disrupting the natural food chain. Since each species plays an important role in maintaining ecosystem balance, damaging the food chain leads to ecosystem imbalance. This disruption can result in the extinction of certain animals, which might eventually destroy the entire ecosystem.
Some believe that technology can be the solution to saving the Earth, but the truth is, it cannot change human behavior. People often use electricity carelessly, as if it were unlimited and may think that solar panels provide energy without harming nature. However, overconsuming electricity, even if it is generated by solar panels, can still be problematic. Energy storage systems may become depleted and remanufacturing them requires a significant amount of energy and chemicals, which negatively affect the environment. Additionally, during the remanufacturing, mining for rare metals such as silicon, cadmium, and lithium can lead to deforestation.
The Earth is facing a number of difficulties, such as toxic gases emitted by factories. To fulfill our basic needs, factories manufacture everyday products non-stop, which causes air pollution that negatively impacts the atmosphere. Despite being aware of this, people continue to throw away many recyclable items, causing even more pollution. By recycling these items instead of buying new ones, people can reduce waste. As a result, producers might minimize the amount of production and air pollution will decrease.
In conclusion, the future of the Earth depends on drastic changes in the way we live. Although overconsumption and careless usage pose significant threats, we can mitigate these problems if individuals promise to change their lifestyles now. By taking these urgent actions, we can ensure a sustainable and healthy planet for the generations to come.
