To grow business, companies should create new positions from time to time, and the senior positions are really crucial ones, as leaders are the ones who decide the company’s fate with appropriate decisions. Many people have the view that they should give higher positions to candidates from the company itself who have scope to carry more on their shoulders. I agree with this view point to some extent, and both view points have been discussed in the below essay.
Managers, leaders, or executives are the people who help organizations excel in every vertical by taking decisions for the organization, creating road maps, and help in adding new clients to the company. To fulfill those responsibilities, they should have a proper understanding of the company’s venture and culture. Hence, hiring a candidate from a lower position who already knew the company’s business, has done excellent work in his respective position, and showing a caliber to achieve better in a high-level position should be given a chance. Moreover, these internal hirings would save the cost of recruitment and training, and on top of that, employees might not take much time getting familiar with new responsibilities and would take less time in knowledge transfer sessions. Furthermore, client interaction plays a significant role to get more business in the long run, and the past interaction of internal employees with the clients will certainly help in this field. Research has shown that when there is an opportunity for promotion to leadership positions, employees become more productive and take on responsibilities beyond their defined roles.
On the other hand, as these upper-level positions required highly skilled employees, therefore, hiring solely on the basis of time spent by employees in a particular company and not on the basis of performance would not be a great idea, as this can take a toll on the company’s growth. Furthermore, these positions often required high qualifications and experience in their respective fields in accordance with the venture’s requirements, such as a doctorate or higher-level degree in administration, and most of the time it became quite challenging to find the right candidate from the company. Although companies have flexibility to hire the candidate according to their wishes, in my opinion, they should invite internal and external candidates for the higher position; otherwise, companies may lose their loyal employees.
To sum up, the businesses should look into existing employees before going outside to appoint a new position, as there are many merits to doing this. However, if there are difficulties hiring via internal pool then they should open the floor for both outside and inside people.
