Band 6+: In many cities the use of video cameras in public places is being increased in order to reduce crime, but some people believe that these measures restrict our individual freedom. Do the benefits of increased security outweigh the drawbacks?

Many large capitals in the world try to eliminate crimes by using recording cameras in public places. However, some people seem to refuse their presence in major parts of cities as they think it is a kind of interruption of their freedom, while the others think it is very useful for their safety. I believe that the advantages is more significant and useful than the disadvantages.

In one hand, there are several disadvantages of using modern recording devices as cameras. One of these disadvantages is the reduction of people’s privacy. That is owing to the fact that many activities of

people is tracked by these cameras which may limit many activities of people either their movement or their voices and their conversations to other people. As a result of that, people may feel discomfort at public places due to the presence of that kind of recording materials. Another disadvantage is the fact that this cameras may be used by some criminals by hacking the recording system to get some crucial informations about celebrities. For an instance, stealing some bank cards from well-known business men after being tracked by using these cameras.

One the other hand, I agree that the merits are more valuable than the previous negative points. First of them is that many governments use recording cameras as a tool of people safety, as they are used to limit the outlaws from committing crimes. Some murdering cases in many countries are solved only by using the recordings of this cameras. Second point is about the fact that police depends on cameras to find the lost and stolen objects by tracking the last place these objects are found in it. Many wallets and keys are lost every day and their places are reviled by using the digital cameras. In contrast, if cameras were not present in these places, many criminals would blackmail people in order to return their objects.

To conclude, in my opinion the uses to cameras in public places is more advantageous in helping people to keep them safe either by prevent crimes or find their lost objects than any other demerits.
