It is commonly true that the suitable measure to reduce crime rate of some cities is to use more security camcorders in public places, while I believe that the benefits prevail over the drawbacks.
In my opinion, program surveillance provides a safe environment for citizens. With the fear of getting caught, the criminals will consider before committing. Besides, cameras could be a important proof for some crime cases. Additionally, cameras will be able to help people address many problems. For instance, citizens, who have missed or dropped their items, they could find theirs by checking the video recordings. Therefore, having cameras is quite significant for people in some cities.
On the other hand, cameras could make individuals feel like they are being watched and stalked. For example, cameras are usually being set up in restaurants or shops, so for some people who have anxiety disorders, they would not feel comfortable while being watched under cameras like that. Moreover, datas saved by cameras can be hacked and stolen by criminals, they would use those to violate the law. Therefore, there would be many victims suffered negative effects from this faulty activity.
In conclusion, it seems to me that we gain a lot of benefits through using cameras in public, but we are also affected by that.
