I strongly agree that advertising stimulates people getting unnecessary products. That is the reason of the most widely discussed issue named mass consumption. It leads to several problems such as ruining our planet and finances.
Advertisements influence people to buy more new things, even if they are completely unnecessary. Companies gain a big amount of money, after convincing individuals to buy new products, that is the only thing that most companies care about. Sometimes celebrities who cooperate with companies like this, advertise their items. It fosters people to buy these items over and over, just because they really believe their favorite celebrity. At the end, usually, but not always after a while individuals regret buying those items, but they cannot return anything back, money is already spent. When this cycle process continues, average citizens are facing empty wallets, while companies’ profits continue to rise.
The next main problem is environmental effect. After buying new items and realizing that they do not really need them, people throw items away. As the result our planet becomes more polluted. There are several examples of how things that were expensive, popular and trendy ended up at a landfill. This generates million tons of waste every year, from electronics to clothes.
In conclusion, to solve this problem at least a little, people should ask themselves ‘Do I really need it?’ before purchasing something new. Ultimately, people should remember that is affects both our personal well-being and the Earth.
