Nowadays, there is a debate about whether children should be taught to compete or cooperate. While these two arguments has its own good reasoning, I believe that children needs to be taught about collaborative work.
On one hand, teaching children to be competitive will be beneficial for them, since they will pursue their full potential. Some people believe this kind of educational culture will produce a higher quality human resources that can have positive impact for country. With a competitive environment, children have to push themselves and defeat others. This output will benefit the country’s workforce in the future, which beneficial for the economy.
However, some people believe that children need to be taught about collaborative work. The argument expects kids to train themselves in teamwork, because in the future they will always work with another people. This skill is required by a lot of corporations to strengthen their workforce and will lessen unnecessary conflict between individuals. Collaborative work culture will help the managers to manage their team and achieve company’s goal. It is easier to obtain the target if the individuals have the same purpose.
From my perspective, I am inclined toward the importance of collaborative. Teaching children to be competitive will produce an individualistic person. This kind of person will become an obstacle to reach goal and might become a source of conflicts. Therefore, I believe that children need to be taught to coorporate.
In conclusion, teaching children to compete might help to push themselves and reach their individual potention, but it will bring more disadvantage since it will be harder for them to adapt. On the other hand, being cooperate will teach them about adaptation skill and pursue common goal.
