Unhealthy eating habits have been a rapidly growing issue worldwide among all age groups. However, studies show that obesity among young ones is increasing. There are various measures to eradicate this but these would require a collaborative effort of individuals themselves, friends, family, and governments.
Marketed fast foods with less nutrition is the biggest reason behind obese children. They are easily manipulated or tricked into buying guaranteeing satisfaction ultimately harming their immune system and overall health. With busy lifestyles, parents are less prone to cooking homemade meals for their kids, opening doors for such franchises—for example, burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas sold at McDonald’s, Subway, and Dominoes respectively add zero value to a body’s nutrient content.
On the other hand, lack of physical exercise also adds to the weight concerns. Children now are spending more time on video games and binge-watching rather than playing outdoors. This weakens their metabolism giving rise to disorders including sleep deprivation, constipation, stress, blood pressure, and many more.
Being self-aware has to be the biggest priority among young adults. Parents should take responsibility for creating a balanced routine. Governments should instruct schools on creating a curriculum inclusive of physical education as well as nutrient meals. There should be regulatory bodies keeping an eye on nutrient levels on the foods sold in the market right down from raw materials to finished ones served at restaurants and other outlets.
To sum up, this apocalyptic issue can only be reduced by constant and productive efforts at macro and micro levels by governments and individuals respectively.
