Many today are of the belief that the ubiquity of fast food provides enough enjoyment and economic positives to outweigh its impact on public health. In my opinion, the disadvantages related to health make this a negative development.
Those supporting the fast food industry typically point to the pleasure consumers derive and the employment it provides. There is little to argue about in terms of enjoyment. Fast food is affordable and tastes good. That explains its popularity and makes it accessible for people from even the lowest socioeconomic backgrounds. Moreover, there are obvious economic benefits. Companies like McDonald’s, Burger King, Baskin Robbins, and Domino’s Pizza are some of the largest employers globally. Their economic contributions extend beyond providing poorly paid jobs as they are taxed and thereby strengthen the federal budgets of both developing and developed nations.
On the other hand, it can be observed that fast food was able to harm agriculture. For example, when people solely come to the fast food store to eat all day, they do not have time to go to the market and buy natural food like rice, vegetables or fruits. This issue not only affects the performance of cultivation, but also it can harm the economy of some nations which were famous for agriculture like vietnamese or thailand. In addition, the prolongation of working can make people bear the weight of stress and burn out and make them not have time for cooking at home. As a result, they are able to eat full-time in fast food stores like Mc Donald or Circle K while cooking at home can be healthier and lift up the family relationship. Besides, the high-use of fast food can have negative effects on health. For instance, fast foods usually have a lot of fat and glucose which provide power for the body to work or study, but when people eat them for a long time, it can worsen their health. In the 21st century, the USA, which has a lot of retail chains of fast food, experienced the increase in obese of children and adults. Moreover, if the country has a lot of obese, they can not lift up the performance of manufacturing and lead to the decrease in the national finance.
In conclusion, despite the boons for enjoyment and the economy, fast food is a negative taken as a whole given its impact on well-being. It is therefore important to regulate fast food companies to curb their influence.
