Band 6+: In many countries, fast food is becoming cheaper and more widely available. What are the advantages and the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, many fast-food products have become much more accessible for people due to the low price and availability. While this development has some benefits for people, the drawbacks of having fast-food cheaply and easily must not be overlooked too.

Some people think that there are several advantages if fast food products are cheap and can be almost everywhere. Firstly, fast food, a lot of people’s favorite type of meal, becomes more affordable, which means even people with low budget can afford it. In fact, nowadays, one portion of fast-food costs five times cheaper than the food we prepare at home. Another advantage is that it saves people’s time. People will no longer have to travel several miles to get to their favorite fast-food place. Instead, they can find at least one fast food store in their neighborhood, which much closer than in the past.

On the other hand, this development has some disadvantages too. One the biggest drawbacks is that it causes some health problems. Because most fast-food products have become extremely cheap, there is high possibility that some low-quality ingredients are used to keep prices low for the product. If people constantly consume those products, they may get some health problems such as diabetes. Second problem with having easy access to such products is that people may get other more serious health problems. Constant intake of fast food, which contains a lot of fat and sugar, causes addiction, and leads to obesity. According to WHO statistics, the majority of obese people have gained weight because of excessive fast-food consumption.

In conclusion, while many people think that there are several advantages of having fast food products cheaper and more accessible, other people argue that it will have more long-term health issues that it might cause if people consume it in huge quantities.
