There is no doubt that exams play an integral role in human life as they analyze the intelligent quotient and concentration levels of people. However, people believe that in many countries, standardized exams are contributed to assess capabilities of students and to decide the success of their education. Both advantages and disadvantages will be discussed in this essay with relevant examples.
Firstly, it is vital that examinations are indispensable for the pupils in educational institutions. This is because they make students to study and learn the topics which provide knowledge to them. For instance, despite attending classes in the schools, students do not read the subjects daily after reaching home. Exams infuse fear in them and pupils become responsible on account of it and prepare to write and pass the exams. In addition, students get improved owing to exams by correcting their flaws in subjects.
Examinations have wide range of benefits in students life. The reason is that they help pupils to prove their talent by attempting them perfectly. Academic examinations facilitates students to get promoted to further classes by clearing them. For example, in higher secondary education, by attempting University exams of 11th standard and passing all subjects of the respective class helps them to reach successive class and individual development. Furthermore, examinations assists in assessing theoritical and analytical skills of the students. For illustration, students have to write the content of the topics with respect to their subjects and attempt problem solving questions related to mathematics and science subjects. Theory subjects aid them to improve grammar and vocabulary skills where as practical exams enhances their understanding and thinking capacity.
In contrast, despite intense hardwork students can fail in exams due to nervousness and exam tension they can not able to achieve the expected score in examinations which can push students in to depression and suicidal activities. For illustration, NEET exam requires thorough preparation as it is very competitive. NEET exams enables people to secure their places in medical colleges for MBBS and BDS courses. This exam do not happen frequently and cost of exam is also expensive. Students who are unable to pass the exam by obtaining necessary score to acquire placement to study for medical courses become mentally depressed and feel they are not capable to clear the exam which leads to emotional consequences like suicides and sense of a failure person from families and society.
In conclusion, although formal exams have drawbacks like emotional consequences, stigma of society on failures and expensive prices of examination fees, people need examinations to enhance their theory, analytical skills, acquiring knowledge, wisdom. In my opinion, I feel that advantages of formal exams outweighs the disadvantages.
