It is true that there has been a large expenditure of funds to improve internet access from governments in numerous nations. This expenditure was due to many reasons and was not completely reasonable.
On the one hand, the internet plays an important role in providing an enormous amount of information and knowledge for people. Besides, the internet offers convenience to citizens in studying, shopping, and makes their lives easier. For example, you can take online courses without going out or buy everything that you like, such as: clothes, jewelry, furniture, or even food through the internet instead of going to restaurants and shopping centers. Additionally, the internet also brings the population significant income by enabling them to sell goods or teach online and more. Nevertheless, although these are good advantages, allocating significant amounts to expand internet coverage is still not an appropriate use of government funds.
On the other hand, there are more urgent needs in other sectors besides the internet, which money should be allocated. One of those must be medical quality. The government should use more money to innovate infrastructure or build new hospitals and medical centers for inhabitants so that they can get the best services for treatment. Moreover, fields including education and security also ought to be prioritized by the government to allow residents to have a good and safe life. For instance, governments can pay a sum for reforming the curriculum to develop education quality instead of only investing in the internet.
In conclusion, the internet is indeed necessary and useful for people in the world. However, using large funds to improve access is actually not a great idea. That amount of money needs to be consumed sensibly by governments in various countries.
