Nowadays, an increasing number of former prisoners commit crimes again shortly after their release. While this trend is mainly caused by insufficient rehabilitation programs in prisons, providing effective reintegration and comprehensive job support can significantly reduce the problem.
Undoubtedly, the primary reason why the recidivism rates are increasing has to do with the lack of rehabilition programs. Without such initiatives, many inmates leave correctional facilities without acquiring vocational skills or higher education. As a result, they face severe challenges in finding legal employment upon release, which often forces them to resort to illegal activities once again to meet their needs.
There are various ways in which the issue of recidivism can be adressed. First of all, it is important for the government to focus on promoting reintegration among the prisoners. When prisoners are provided with vocational training and psychological support during their sentence, they are far more likely to secure employment after their release. As a result, they can sustain themselves financially, which significantly reduces the likelihood of them reoffending out of financial desperation. Moreover, the government should also offer effective job support to help former inmates successfully reintegrate into society. This can be accomplished by granting tax credits, subsidies, or reductions to private companies that actively recruit and hire individuals with criminal records. Without such action, even if the government equips them with some vocational training, they may not be able to secure a stable job due to their criminal record.
In conclusion, the rising rate of recidivism is driven by absence of effective rehabilitation programs. However, it can be mitigated by providing comprehensive reintegration and job support.
