In recent years, a large number of people started to use online resources instead of traditional libraries. As a result, the usage of libraries has significantly decreased. As I see it, there can be possible benefits of this development, but I am sure that the drawbacks are more consequential.
It is true that websites provide us with several advantages. The reason why a lot of people have begun to use them as the main source of the information is pretty accurate. Firstly, users all around the world can get instant access to any content they want. It opens huge opportunities for many people, because they can use online platforms whenever or wherever they want. In contrast, libraries demand people to visit physically for giving information that they are looking for. Secondly, information in the online pages frequently updates. It makes people more aware of the current political and economic decisions.
However, the downsides of using online pages are more convincing. The first major problem that people have been struggling with is an overloaded information system. In the browsers there is a variety of information for one topic. Most often they are not accurate. Moreover, all the information we get on the internet after searching is not reliable. Despite frequent updates, a significant part of the data can still present misleading context. The overwhelming amount of online content makes it difficult for users to separate reliable sources from unreliable ones. Finally, some books we read from the internet for free are not protected by copyright. Lots of people just read it without purchasing any monthly subscription. This can negatively affect authors’ earnings and reduce their motivation to produce quality work.
To sum up, although there are some benefits for online pages, I am deeply convinced that the drawbacks of this development are more significant.
