Using plastic bags in shopping has been discussed completely in recent years. Some people believe that plastic bags should be banned because of their negative affects to the land and water. I totally agree with this opinion.
First, plastic bags may be a source of rubbish of soil polution because they have many physical properties harmful to environment. Arcordding to some researchs, plastic bags may have some harmful chemical subtances, if these subtances are absortbed into soil, the quality of ground will be decreased sharply. Plastic bags not only cause soil polution but also are the main reason of water polution.
Some scientists point out that people using plastic bags often throw these in the river, ocean or somewhere have water to let it sink on its own. This action contributes to the increase of plastic bags in ocean and river, moreover, a large number of sea animals are killed and their corpes float onto the sea and cause pollution. For example, there are over 5000 tons of fish corpes float onto many rivers everry year, affecting to the environmen seriously.
On the contrary, using plastic bags in shopping also brings many conveniences. They are cheaper and more convenient than other materials. However, plastic bags are still the main reason of pollution in our planet. Therefore they should be banned to protect the environment.
In conclusion, plastic bags are the main soucre of rubbish in landfills and marine pollution. Therefore, government should have a legal ban on plastic bags to protect the environment. I believe that if we reduce the use of plastic bags, our ecosystem will become more and more beautiful.
