In most countries, the use of plastic bags is becoming commonplace among consumers, which leads to the accumulation of garbage and soil and water contamination. Therefore, many people believe that the government should impose a ban on plastic carry bags . Personally, I strongly agree with this statement due the harmful effect of plastic bags on marine animals and economic development.
The first rationale for my approval of such a ban is since these bags are made from materials designed to be durable, they take hundreds of years to decompose. During the decomposition process, they will break down into tiny toxic particles that can contaminate waterways and oceans, eventually entering into food chains where sea creatures accidentally ingest them. In addition, many marine animals will confuse plastic carry bags for food and consume them without realizing the harm. As a result, the plastic debris can clog their stomach and block their digestive processes.
Another key reason why I support this statement is the presence of plastic can pose several challenges that hinder tourism development in some areas, especially famous tourist destinations . Due to the excessive accumulation of plastic waste along the coastlines, it can lead to the unpleasant odor disrupting tourists’ experiences and there are also many types of plastic waste clog up gutters and drains causing the water and sewage to overflow and become the breeding grounds of germs, which can damage tourists’ health when they are exposed to contaminated water resources or and toxic substances released from plastic waste such as allergies. Consequently, it will lead to a significant decline in tourist arrivals.
In conclusion, due to the adverse effects on the marine environment and the economic growth, I strongly support that the government should implement some policies to address this issue comprehensively.
