It is often debated whether teenagers around the globe should do part-time jobs or concentrate on other things, namely their education. From my perspective, doing short-term jobs benefits youngsters more than solely focusing on their studies, but no job should not be prioritised over school.
To begin with, it is important to note that casual jobs, such as cashier, delivery person, may be relatively easy, but offer a lot of pros for young people. Early work experience helps them develop work ethic, soft skills and financial literacy. In my opinion, having their own money that they earned themselves makes teenagers spend it more consciously and helps them to understand concept of how money should be managed. For instance, teenager who work as a barista not only learns how to interact with customers, but also develops time management and responsibility.
In addition, it should be emphasised that although school is unable to provide students with the unique experience of having a job, work should never be prioritised work over education. Working in jobs like cashier, barista or waiter is not something that should be considered as career life choice. On average people with college degree earn more than the ones without, so that is why education is better option than working in long term perspective. For example, a student who chooses to focus on school while working part-time a few hours a week may later qualify for a well-paying position in their field, such as engineering or medicine, rather than staying in low-wage jobs, but still having skills from his job.
In conclusion, part-time job can be highly beneficial for teenagers, helping them develop essential life skills. However this never should be as a replace for education in school.
