A myriad of nations in the world have observed a prevalent approach that their governments allocate a massive amount of budgets on the arts. Some people endorse such an approach, while others claim that the governments should put more resources into healthcare and education. Personally, I believe that striking a balance between both of them would yield the best outcomes.
On the one hand, there are some rationales that explain why healthcare and education should be above the arts on the priority list of governmental investment. These days, it is not uncommon in many parts of the world to observe that hospitals and healthcare institutions are running out of capacities due to the increasing number of health issues and their complexity. Without sufficient resources, it is estimated that many individuals would not have their health problems addressed in the near future. Besides, inequality and inaccessibility to education are still pervasive issue that leads to literacy and poverty in developing countries. Thus, prioritizing education along with healthcare should be of the highly essential consideration in most countries of the world.
On the other hands, the beneficial implications of the arts cannot be ignored as arts can unify people and foster creativity. In society where many foundational aspects, such as education and healthcare, have already developed optimally, citizens would demand more for their mental and psychological health. As arts can spark innovations and foster a sense of community, investing in building museums, art galleries, or constructing sculptures would increase social interactions and help people expand their imagination, and by extension, elevate the people’s quality of living. Additionally, funding the arts would further enhance the overall economy of a country, as it can attract tourists and create job opportunities in many different realms, including theater, music, and visual arts.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on determining whether investing in arts or healthcare and education should be the main focus of the government, I contend that both areas deserve optimal approach. While education and healthcare are fundamental aspects of a stable life, the arts can help enrich the living quality of humans and lead to a more thriving economy.
