Spending more on the arts by the government is extremely popular in many countries and is supported by citizens. Nonetheless, others argue that health and education should be further invested in by them. In this essay, I will evaluate both sides of this argument before proposing my perspective.
On the one hand, there are several compelling rationales why the governments prefer providing more money for the arts. Firstly, spending money on the arts is the main factor contributing to the preservation of national identity by maintaining and promoting traditional cultural values. Moreover, the arts offer numerous works of art that are the brainchild that help life become rich and diverse. Another reason is that if the authorities concentrate on investing in the arts, it would be conserved and restored effectively. Therefore, the works of art have abilities not only to attract the attention of visitors worldwide but also to increase income for countries and create more job opportunities in the fields of music, cinema, and painting alike. For instance, Hue royal court music is one of the most unique intangible cultural heritages in Vietnam, which attracts a large number of visitors annually due to interest, resulting in growing budget resources of Vietnam toward the long-term benefits for economic development.
However, I believe that the government should prioritize investing in more essential services like health and education. To begin with, health and education play a crucial role in the sustainable development of each region because if the authorities meet the necessary needs of residents, they would have a solid foundation for their lives, thus, improving their overall well-being and enhancing the educational level, which helps nations creat numerous talents serving for the future of countries. Furthermore, by allocating funds for health and education, which contribute to more chances for the poor to rise and improve the quality of life, countries would decrease the inequality in daily life. One example of this is the Netherlands, which has many support policies to incentivize individuals who are from underprivileged backgrounds to participate in school, helping them develop comprehensively.
In conclusion, although channeling financial resources into the arts is vital, I firmly believe that health and education should be focused on investment due to sustainable development and the decline of inequality in our lives.
