It has been observed that many countries are experiencing a drastic decline in native flora and fauna. This essay aims to examine the factors responsible for this trend and also propose remedies to address this situation.
Evidently, the downfall in the number of plants and animals is associated with the excessive exploitation of nature by humans. With the increasing global population, the demands for timber and medicinal plants are ever escalating. This resulted in the irrational harvesting, cutting down of forests, and the destruction of animal habitats. Consequently, not only plants but also animals bear the brunt of it and reaching the verge of extinction. For instance, In Brazil, the rain forests are cut down by humans for its valuable wood and creation of land for agriculture.
To address the dwindling number of plants and animals, it is pertinent that governments should establish sanctuaries to assist their flourishing. As in those safe zones killing of an animal or cutting down of a plant would have punitive consequences, they will provide an optimal environment for the thriving of species. Moreover, this issue can be satisfactorily countered by creating public awareness. Through television programs or articles in print media, public is enlightened about the diversity and the adverse implications of unbalance ecosystem.
In conclusion, plants and animals’ existence are threatened by humans unjustified behavior in many countries. This is because they are exploited for the benefits of humans overlooking its adverse effects on the population of these species. To remediate this situation, government should declare native areas of these species as national parks and start campaigns to create public awareness for the conservation of them.
