Some people believe that deeper respect should be held towards elder ones. I think this is a recent trend that affects most western countries, which shakes social fundamentals that were praised for almost two thousand years.
Indeed, since the beginning of time in society, old ones deserved the utter respect, as they were those who decided and composed the first form of government, which was called ‘the government of the elders’. Moreover, for centuries, that feeling did not change, until the last decades when something did broken. The main causes are to be found in the advent of tv and social media, and the consequences that technology and globalisations brought to the society. In fact, as the world was moving fast, elders were left out, and lost the instruments to keep up with times, distanciating themselves with the later generations, that did not need them anymore.
As far as I can say, these behaviours could lead to a complete and deep hierarchy revolution, dethroning older ones from the position of admiration and respect they held, replacing them with younger people. Beside, this would also mean the creation of a society with a brand new set of values. Although, elders have the most life experiences which need to be taken into account. In fact, it would be a shame to lose some of these stories, or to not recognise the importance that they held, for examples it has been vital to our society to listen to the histories of of those who survived the holocaust, in order to decide to not walk that path anymore.
In conclusion, I think that a drastic change in the hierarchies of our society is needed, and it allows young people to achieve goals and positions from which they were kept from could only benefits us. On the other hand, this cannot mean to forget every value we had and for which our grandparents fought for. We need to be respectful to everyone in our society, including the elders. One day we will also grow old.
