The issue of whether people should continue eating traditional food or choose international fast food has become an important topic in modern society. While some people believe that traditional food is a better choice, others argue that fast food is more convenient and beneficial. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe that traditional food is a more desirable option.
On the one hand, junk food is gradually replacing traditional food because of its convenience, as it does not take much time to prepare and can be eaten anytime and anywhere. Fast food is particularly popular among young people and office workers who have little time to prepare meals and are too tired to cook after a long day of studying or working. Instead of spending a lot of time cooking and washing dishes, they choose to order food, which is more convenient and allows them to have more time to relax and take care of themselves. In addition, fast food often has a stronger and more appealing flavour than home-cooked meals, making it particularly attractive to young people. For example, after a long day at school, many Vietnamese teenagers may choose to buy fried chicken from KFC, Jollibee rather than eat a home-cooked meal because the crispy chicken and rich seasoning are more appealing to them.
On the other hand, traditional foods are generally healthier for people in the long term because they often contain more fresh ingredients and fewer artificial additives than fast food. Traditional meals are often well-balanced, including meat, vegetables and natural seasonings, which provide people with a variety of essential nutrients. While fast food such as fried chicken can increase the risk of obesity and heart disease because it is often high in fat and calories. Furthermore, traditional cuisine is an important part of a country’s cultural heritage. Cooking traditional dishes helps preserve national identity and allows younger generations to learn about their culture. For example, Vietnamese families often prepare dishes such as bánh chưng and thịt kho tàu during Tet, helping children understand and maintain these traditions.
In conclusion, although fast food is convenient and appealing, I believe that traditional food is a better choice because it is healthier and helps preserve cultural traditions for future generations.
