During the developing process of humanity, there has been a debate over each gender’s responsibility for some certain aspects of life. Many people claim that men should focus on their professional lives only, and women have to embrace all the domestic work alone. Others, however, think that it would be better to share the familial tasks with both individuals in the family. In my opinion, I fully agree with the second statement because of its fairness in the role of both females and males in households.
On the one hand, despite the fact that gender equality is necessary and foundational to building a sustainable human community, it has to face numerous obstacles in traditional notions and practical realities. When human beings first appeared on the Earth, individuals, who mostly were men, with strong physiques and ingenious skills were considered the most powerful and important ones in the community. Up to now, many ethnics in the world still maintain that conception and regard it as a traditional custom. For example, Pakistan, where gender inequality has been deeply rooted in cultural, religious, and societal norms, has the highest female illiteracy and early marriage rate in the world. As a result, changing their notions seems to be impossible and ineffective, and it may cause potential religious conflicts between ethnicities. In addition, practically, women are inherently skilful and patient to do tasks like chores or domestic work, while men are strong enough to do heavy jobs. Therefore, in some faces, traditional norms are right, and fixing female and male individuals in certain tasks seems to be very effective and suitable.
On the other hand, sharing domestic responsibilities not only fosters gender fairness but also solidifies family happiness. In fact, when the wife in a family has to handle both chores and children at the same time, as a result, she may suffer stress and depression leading to an unhappy married life. Thus, support from her partner is extremely crucial to reducing the pressure put on her and improving the family’s happiness and attachment. Moreover, it is also a perfect approach for the spouses to show sympathy and respect to their partners, creating a positive environment for the children to learn about gender equality in the family, as well as in society. Ultimately, gender equality is the key to a contented family and an ideal community, where opportunities and tasks are allocated fairly to both genders.
All in all, the argument over gender equity is a complicated and persistent problem. While the fairness between male and female individuals is the foundational factor paving the way to an ideal and sustainable society, it is an insurmountable challenge to make adjustments in people’s ideology, which is deeply rooted in traditional norms. In the modern era, the responsibilities of men and women are the same, so ensuring that opportunities are shared equally is the backbone of societal developments in the future.
