It is true that in many countries of the world, civilizations are becoming more and more similar. While some people believe that cultural similarities foster global understanding, I still believe that this is a negative development.
There are a number of factors responsible for cultural similarities. Chief among these is that information is spread rapidly. Nowadays, by social media, TV shows cultural information can be easily received by audiences all around the world. For example, as recently reported news in Thailand, 80% of the increasing profit from selling clothes from Korea is because people want to wear the same clothes as their idols which they wear on TV. Another reason is that people like to travel around the world or study abroad. Therefore they can approach new cultures and receive more cultural information in many parts of the world.
Cultural similarities can lead to some negative consequences. Perhaps one of these is that there is no cultural diversity. People around the world dress and eat the same things, they act like each other. They will lose their national cultural identity and make them become insignificant in society. The second issue is that this phenomenon can lead to lack of global heritage and creativity. People just act like each other, making them unable to be creative and cannot do anything special to leave for their latter generations.
In conclusion, several reasons can be given to explain why cultural similarities are happening in many places around the world. Additionally, this phenomenon can give rise to many negative consequences.
