The use of drugs enhancing athlets’ performance has increased over recent years. The consequences of this phenomenon are that the sportsmen will be stigmatized and disqualified from competitions. However, these issues can be prevented by the tests before a competition and raising awareness campaigns.
One of the outcomes of taking performance-enhancing drugs is exclusion from competitons. This is because, the commitee who is responsible for organizing the competitions are obliged to disqualify those athletes who undermine the loyalty and justice of the sportsmanship. This, in turn, can ruin the whole career of a sportman since most certainly the punishment will pertain to the further sports games. Moreover, the sportmen will cary stigma if it is turns out that his win was not because of his genuine physical abilities. The negative comments from the fans towards the athletes may demoralize them or even lead to emotional distress. For example, if a sportsmen is caught with doping, he will be embarassed and find it difficult to recover from experiencing such a disgrace and continue traininings.
One possible solution to this is conducting check-ups of athlets before the competitions. Therefore, the fact that it might be publicly disclosed that a certain athlet has resorted to doping will deter him from doing it in order to avoid punishment and disgrace. Another solution would be providing sportsmen with educational instructions about various types of medications. This is necessary because some ordinary medications such as painkillers can be barely disquished from performance-enhanced drugs, so the athlete can unwittingly take the banned treatment.
In conclusion, doping in sports results in stigmatization of the athlets and their disqualification from taking part in competitions. These problems can be avoided through tests and warning instructions on the use of medications.
