In many parts of the world, there are growing concerns about replacing public parks and spaces with gardens, where citizens can grow crops for their needs. While there are both advantages and disadvantages, I believe that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.
On the one hand, those who believe that converting public spaces into gardens for people state that it contributes to promoting residents’ income. With rapid social developments, there are plenty of benefits for citizens who have a main job and an additional job. By growing fruit and vegetables as an additional job, it not only improve their health by providing more fresh foods to their daily lives, but also serves as an optimal way to earn an additional income. Because of the shortage of fresh vegetables nowadays, these fresh foods are significantly appealing to others . As more people engage in trading fruit and vegetables, this leads to building a sustainable society by enhancing their living conditions.
On the other hand, I still side with the idea that there are potential drawbacks of constructing gardens from open spaces because it can deteriorate the economy. With overpopulation, people, who have to work diligently to make a living, become more stressed and they can get other potential mental health problems such as depression and peer pressure. It is undeniable that entertainment destinations are an optimal way to address these issues for diligent people. Without them, stress and other mental health problems tend to be exacerbated and cannot be tackled comprehensively. From that, it negatively impacts workers’ productivity and leads to an influence on the stagnation of economic growth.
In conclusion, despite many benefits from these changes, I still hold the belief that it can contribute to the stagnation of economic growth as potential issues cannot be solved without public parks and open spaces.
