People from around the world love occasional pizzas, burgers and french fries from fast food chains, especially children. Some fast food chains and restaurants provide money to schools for promoting their products to the students. In my opinion, this kind of development could have more of a negative outcome, than positive.
First of all, advertising to easily influenced children is unethical. Since they are unable to distinguish what is purely promotional and what is educational advertisement, neither are they able to form their own opinions. This form of promotion is aimed at the parents through their children.
some might argue that having sufficient funds is crucial for schools to improve the teaching environment for the children, such as providing the right equipment, renovating the library and classrooms and so much more. However, child obesity is increasing rapidly for the last few years. And the main causes are poor diet and lack of physical activity.
Furthermore, children’s health should come first. By encouraging fast food the school is promoting unhealthy eating habits. Fast foods contain high amount of unhealthy fats and sugar, which in the long run can cause hearth issues, high pressure and obesity. Instead, schools should promote extracurricular activities, for example, football clubs or any sport related clubs, and cooking classes, that also teach about nutrients.
In conclusion, promoting fast food restaurants is unethical and can have negative effect on the children. Schools should not encourage unhealthy eating habits, nor promote things that are unrelated to their education, no matter the cost.
